2005 Dietary Guidelines

How many servings of fruits and vegetables should you eat every day?

What the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005 recommends as released by the U.S. Departments of Health & Human Services and Agriculture

5 servings Young children 1 to 3 years Girls 4 to 8 years

6 servings Boys 4 to 8 years

7 servings Girls 9 to 13 years Women 51+ years

8 servings Boys 9 to 13 years Girls 14-18 years Women 31 to 50 years

9 servings Women 19 to 30 years Men 51+ years

10 servings Boys 14 to 18 years Men 19 to 50 years

11 to 13 servings Active boys and men 14 to 30 years

Recommendations are based on averages for each age and gender category. Actual requirements vary based on an individual's size, weight, frequency and intensity of physical activity, and other lifestyle factors
